BATTLE - EVACUATION - TRIUMPH
"...The situation was incomparably worse than we had imagined..." - Winston Churchill
May 1940 sees Britain facing a military disaster. Outgunned and outmanoeuvred, young soldiers fought a desperate battle retreating from the oncoming Nazi war machine. Pushed back to the port of Dunkirk the trapped soldiers were short of food supplies and hope as they waited for rescue.
What happened next was nothing less than a legendary story. A bold seafaring operation was set into action consisting of many ships and small boats streaming across the channel to pick up those stranded and exhausted men and bring them back to the safety of the UK, turning defeat into triumph.
Using rarely seen archive film, this documentary tells the story of the rescued and rescuers in their own words as they describe The Road To Dunkirk - Narrated by David Riley.
