KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS : (1949) is the story of Louis Mazzini, whose mother, a member of the aristocratic D'Ascoyne family, was disinherited for marrying beneath her. Looking to avenge his mother and at the same time gain himself the title of Duke, Louis decides to engage in the gentle art of murder, killing off one by one each of the eight successors to the title - all unforgettably played by Alec Guiness.

PASSPORT TO PIMLICO : (1949). When an unexploded WWII bomb is accidentally detonated it reveals a treasure trove proving that Pimlico is in fact part of Burgundy, France. The residents promptly declare independence, and thus find themselves at loggerheads with the British Government.

THE LAVENDER HILL MOB : (1951) stars Alec Guiness and Stanley Holloway as a bank transfer agent and a souvenir maker who together plot an ingenious crime, unaware of the many pitfalls lying ahead.

THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT : (1951). Alec Guiness' idealistic, mild mannered inventor creates an indestructible cloth - surely a boon for Mankind? Yet he soon finds himself pitted against the disenchangted manufacturing industry, with his only ally being the factory owner's daughter, a breathlessly irresistable Joan Greenwood.

THE LADYKILLERS : (1955) features an impressive cast including Alec Guiness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom as members of a criminal gang who are planning their next job. Lodging with an innocent old lady who thinks they are musicians, they resolve to kill her off, but as problem after problem arises, they find that Mrs. Wilberforce isn't as easy to get rid of as they imagined.
