Series One, Two, Three & Four + Christmas Specials

A group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the late 1950s deal with the pressures of their day-to-day lives while trying to cope with the changes in the world around them.

Series 1

Jenny Lee gets her first job at Nonnatus House and as she begins to care for her patients, she gradually becomes accustomed to her new environment, making friends with fellow midwives Cynthia, Trixie and Chummy.

Series 2

Now settled into Poplar, Jenny still finds herself shocked by the harsh conditions faced by many patients. Trixie and Sister Evangelina board a Swedish cargo ship to treat the Captain’s daughter, and Dr Turner introduces the latest pain relief - gas and air.

Series 3

Jenny faces some tough personal and professional challenges, there are changes too for Chummy, as she settles into motherhood and for Sister Bernadette now known as Shelagh as she prepares to marry Dr Turner.

Series 4

The community prepares to enter a new decade - the 1960s, and welcomes new nurses Barbara Gilbert and Phyllis Crane. Nurse Cynthia embarks on a life-changing spiritual journey while Trixie receives a proposal, and Chummy takes on a new challenge.

Series One

Episode 1 - Newly qualified midwife Jenny arrives in the East End to embark on a challenging career.
Episode 2 - As Jenny Lee settles into her role, there is a new arrival at Nonnatus House.
Episode 3 - Jenny is placed on the district nursing roster for a few weeks.
Episode 4 - When a baby girl is snatched from her pram, the community unites to search for the child.
Episode 5 - Peggy's brother Frank is diagnosed with cancer. Fred hopes to make a fortune from bacon.
Episode 6 - Sister Monica Joan is accused of theft, and Chummy's mother pays her a visit.
