In 1896, poverty is desperate in rural areas left out by the railway boom. Two men plan an ambitious scheme to build a large railway network across the county but the scheme becomes bankrupt, and the unfinished line terminates in a field.
Rare footage of the MSLR s last day, archive film from WW2 and dramatic reconstruction skilfully combine to tell the story of the railway that carried everything from sugar beet to bombs.
Based on original historic research, and featuring interviews with those who worked or travelled on the Middy , this documentary is a delightful, nostalgic journey through fifty years of rural history.
