Hugh Cavendish (James Fox) wishes to restore his beloved church in the sleepy cathedral town of Aldminster, but temperatures are rising in this sleepy village as he will stop at nothing including sacrificing the school choir to do so.

Opposition to the over enthusiatic restoration quest is lead by Headmaster Alexander Troy (David Warner) and choirmaster Leo Beckford (Nicholas Farrell) who attempt to save the choir.

However, others are quickly caught up in their fight, including the Dean's own wife Felicity (Jane Asher) and as the conflict quickly spirals out of control, the intrigue and subterfuge escalates...
