JULY 13TH 1985 - THE DAY THE MUSIC CHANGED THE WORLD "It's 12 noon in London - 7 am in Philadelphia, and around the world it's time
for -- Live Aid! ..........."
- who can forget those words which announced the greatest pop concert to the
world on 13th July 1985.
Organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine
this 16-hour concert, held in London at Wembley Stadium and the J F K Stadium
in Philadelphia in the US, was at the time the biggest event of it's kind in
history. And for those of a certain age the most memorable.
Some of the biggest rock and pop stars and bands at that time took to the
stage. Too many to list but among them were Queen, U2, Status Quo,
David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner,
Bob Dylan, George Michael, Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet and Paul McCartney.
There were many special moments including Phil Collins performing both in
London and Philadelphia (using Concorde to get to the US), Bob Geldof using
the infamous F-word to get us to part with our money and Freddie Mercury
holding the whole Wembley crowd in the palm of his hands singing
Radio Ga Ga and We Are The Champions. And this 4-DVD boxset endeavours
to capture them all with over 10 hours of footage.
Whether you were there in the crowd, sitting in the armchair watching at
home or have just heard from your mum and dad about "The Day" - this
boxset is for you.
