Available on DVD for the very first time, this historic Associated British Pathe documentary salutes and celebrates the city of Liverpool. A totally unique film history of Liverpool in the 20th century, it sweeps from the Edwardian age through to the 1950's and brilliantly captures the changing streets, docks and landmarks of the city.
Here are the people of Liverpool captured at work and at play against the back drop of an everr changing city. Rare filmrecords the giant pageant in Wavertree Park in 1907, shire horses on display in a bygone May Day parade ans well as a police display in Sefton Park along with numerous Royal visits and other special moments.
Liverpool endured two world wars which would help to change it forever. The cameras captured Liverpool men marching off to fight in the Great War as well as the contribution made by the cit's docks and the men of the convoys in the Second World War.
Liverpool's docks are also well covered, with liners of yesteryear and rare film covering the completion of The Gladstone Dock System. Other highlights include coverage of the Overhead Railway, a look at the unsuccessful tram postal service, work on the Mersey Tunnel, the opening of Speke Airport and a review of the changing face of housing in the city.
